1 year and counting: personal // northeast, tx portrait and lifestyle photographer

“Listen to the mustn'ts, child. Listen to the don'ts.
 Listen to the shouldn'ts, the impossibles, the won'ts.
 Listen to the never haves, then listen close to me...
 Anything can happen, child. Anything can be.”
|| Shel Silverstein ||

A year ago {nearly exactly...I'm only a few days late ;)} I walked through the doors and dropped my bags on the floor of the home of one very special girl.
Her name is Jessica.
I have already spun the tale of how I came to find her blog, fall in love with her work, and eventually meet her and become her friend in a glorious host of events that strung themselves beautifully like pearls on a string. So I'm not going to repeat it all, though I love to tell the story. :)
This post, I hope, will be more about where this span of 360-some-odd days have brought me in the world of photography. How one week with four girls in a tiny bedroom, 5 black boxes with many buttons, dials, and photographing capabilities, an endless well of creative ideas,  excessive laughter, mood music at times, good food, practice photo shoots, hay bales, and a large helping of just pure hilarity and fun thrown in, was the start of an awfully big adventure
Let's start by saying that this past weekend, which really was exactly the year anniversary of my internship with Jessica Shae, I got to come full circle and a "internship reunion" took place. :D Rachel Leigh and I went to go spend time with Jessica and her family at their house...time that we had been planning for awhile now. She had come to northeast Texas several times so it was time for us to head south for once. :) As if revisiting that little bedroom that is decorated so lovely wasn't nostalgic enough we actually were able to meet up with two other special girls. :) As we sat around the lunch table shoving in munching on Chipotle's ridiculously good food and large portions I couldn't help getting flashbacks. :)

Look at us!! Aren't we so little? We're just children!! {Ok...so we kinda look the same...but you don't understand, we've all come so far in one year!}
I wish I could make it clear how much fun we had that week.

It was pretty close to illegal I'm sure. ;)

It was a good time of catching up and happily remembering. Which made me start to realize what this little blog has been through. It started out small but the dreams behind it were big...very big.
And my blog, though I'm sure it was hard at times, kept up with every roller coaster that those dreams decided to ride. It was the happy little home that welcomed in everything from portraits, random personal posts, a huge award, babies, couples, even a wedding! I'm so proud of how hospitable its been. ;)
So I begrudgingly picked a favorite post from each category. Though in all reality I guess there really are no favorites. It was SO hard to choose...it was like choosing between my children...well, more like sweet guests that havewalked through the doorway of this blog of mine, kicked off their shoes and decided to stay while. Each and everyone that was and was not picked has been a part of this big journey. So I have to thank all the people that are being represented in these. They are great.

There was so much beauty stuffed into this one...had to choose it. :)

This is one of my older ones, and though I know for certain I've gotten better and there are more recent family shoots that are better quality...it still holds an immovably close place in my heart...must have something to do with the people in them?? ;)

Yeah, there were times when I got all deep and emotional with you guys...sorry. ;) Here are two times that I just laid it all out there.
The Truth is...
Am I old?
Who else do I have to thank for this year of blogging?
Rachel, Hannah, and Carissa for being learners right along with me and not laughing at me for being the youngest and least trained of the group...though I'm pretty sure they did laugh at everything else concerning me. ;)

 Thank you to my  parents who have often found this photography thing to all be close to frivolous, stressful to the max, and almost useless at times. But they never let me give up...even though they probably wanted me to....juuuust kidding. ;) I love you guys so much and I know I couldn't do any of this without y'all...especially cause I can't drive by myself yet.

I can't not thank Jessica cause, shoot! She's the one that started me on this whole thing in the first place!

{These portraits of her are coming up next week...but she will be featured on my super special Valentine's post tomorrow...you're NOT gonna wanna miss it. P.S. Her Boy is in it too.}

But overall I'm thankful for everything that the Lord has put in my path. He has led me safely thus far and everyday I am amazed at His grace and providence. :)
